Today I witnessed history being made.

Today I saw the judiciary in its full glory – trashing social mores and taking up for the persecuted.

Today after a long time, I logged into a happy, positive, encouraging Twitter.

Today I understood why many men and women in my India felt they could finally breathe free.

Today I read of so many people thanking the Supreme Court – not for the right to have consensual sex, not for recognition of their homosexuality, but for understanding their right to love and live with dignity.

Sure, it’ll take time for our hearts to grow  and minds to open.

But today I read these lines of Rabindranath Tagore and smiled.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
